Fighter Interview

Hello everyone,

My name is Ailipati,

from Shandong Haoyue Combat Club,

I am a Chinese MMA fighter from Xinjiang Yili.

Q: How do you feel about today’s fight?

Ailipati: I feel that I have learned a lot after today’s fight. I also want to thank my team, my coaches, and the Happy Elephant event. I am especially grateful to my opponent.

Q: How do you rate your opponent today?

Ailipati: I think both of us were not fully warmed up in the first round, and we didn’t have much time to get to know each other. We didn’t understand each other very well. From the second round to the third round, we were able to use about 70% – 80% of what we had learned and trained. However, I realized that I still have a lot of shortcomings, and I will work on improving.

Q: What are your strengths? Did you show them?

Ailipati: I think my usual technique in the cage is to control my opponent in the cage and pull him to the ground to do some moves like the locking techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I have just in the second round, a straight punch out of the box when I hit the air, my hand is a little bit uncomfortable did not make it, and my concentration is a little bit dispersed.

Q: Was there a difficult moment during the fight?

Ailipati: The only difficulty was my physical fitness. In the three rounds that lasted for 5 minutes each, I am still not satisfied with my fitness, I need to strengthen my fitness.

Q: Is strong mental resilience needed during the match? How do you stay focused?

Ailipati: My mentality was good because I arrived at Happy Elephant yesterday and spent the whole day there. I probably saw some of the athletes who fought before me, and then I felt solid.

Q: When did you start practicing MMA?

Ailipati: Because many athletes from my hometown have made a name for themselves in big cities, including some athletes from Xinjiang who have reached the UFC. I also hope to be on that stage one day. I developed a strong interest in martial arts during high school. My school didn’t have a football team, but I loved boxing. As boxing gradually developed, I started watching UFC events and Henan TV’s “Cage Fighting”, which exposed me to various forms of unarmed combat. I have great respect for martial artists, and that’s how I became deeply interested in the MMA industry.

Q: Have you ever participated in any important fights in your career? What results did you get?

Ailipati: In Xinjiang or Xinjiang MMA professional, we don’t have many opportunities. Before that, I used to compete in stand-up fights like Sanda and freestyle fighting. I had the honor of winning two stand-up fights. Then, I had an MMA fight, and I felt that MMA gave me with a better experience.

Q: Have you ever had a serious injury that made you consider giving up?

Ailipati: That’s a long story. We’re not like basketball or football players who rely on teamwork and have a salary. As fighters, if we get injured, we don’t have matches, and there’s no source of income. So, before we step into the ring and compete, we go through a long period of life stress. Athletes like us often have minor injuries, but fortunately, I haven’t had any major health problems. Sometimes injuries happen like before, but my passion for this sport has never made me give up.

Q: What would you like to say to your family?

Ailipati: I am very grateful to my parents. They are old and they have always wanted me to become an outstanding person who can contribute to our country and hometown. I also want to be a person like that. My mother is worried about me because this industry brings us a lot of injuries. Being a mother, she worries about me. But gradually, she is in my way to understand me, and have more confidence in me. She encourages me over the phone, and I am very thankful to my parents.

Q: Any words for your club and friends who support you?

Ailipati: I apologize to my coach and fans for this bout because I feel that I didn’t perform to the best of my ability. I believe in myself, and I will work hard to bring more exciting and better matches to my fans next time.
